The Rev. Reginald Cranston

I was born in the city of Belfast, N. Ireland, the eldest of a family of four boys. Although my parents did not profess to be Christians, they insisted that I and my three brothers attended Sunday School and church every Lord's Day. Unfortunately it was a church that did not preach the gospel, therefore I was never told of my need of Christ, and the salvation that He purchased for sinners just like me through His death on the cross of Calvary.

It was in my teenage years that I developed a love for rock music, which removed from my mind all thought of going to church, and I certainly did not have any interest in the things of God. I was only interested in my music and in what the world had to offer.

But God who is rich in mercy, brought the message of saving grace to me through an Old Time Gospel Campaign, which was held in the town where I then lived with my wife Doreen. It was a year or so after that Campaign that Doreen and I came under conviction of sin and we received Christ as our Lord and Saviour.

Now that I was a Christian, the Lord began to lead me to pray about serving Him as a preacher of the gospel of Christ. Being convinced of the call of God, I applied and was accepted as a student for the ministry in the Theological Hall of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster. During my four years of study, I served as student minister in charge of our church in the town of Omagh, Co. Tyrone. Upon the successful completion of my studies, I received a call to be the minister of our church in Newtownabbey, which is located just north of Belfast. I served the Lord in that congregation for thirteen years before the Lord called me to serve Him here in Canada. My wife and I and our four sons arrived here in Ontario in 1991, and I have been minister of Port Hope Free Presbyterian Church for the past seventeen years.
